Referral Links and Codes
Two attribution methods
Convertly supports two ways to track referrals:
| Method | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Referral link | A URL containing your partner parameter | Website CTAs, ads, email signatures |
| Referral code | A short text code the visitor enters at signup | Verbal promotions, podcasts, videos, conferences |
Referral links
Creating a referral link
- Log in to your affiliate dashboard
- Go to Referral Links
- Click + New Link
- Enter a label (internal only, e.g., “YouTube description link”)
- Click Create
Your link looks like:
https://convertlycrm.com/?ref=YOUR_CODEOr for a direct waitlist route:
https://convertlycrm.com/waitlist?ref=YOUR_CODEHow referral links work
When a visitor clicks your link:
- The
refparameter is validated by Convertly’s API - A click is recorded in your dashboard
- A signed attribution cookie is set (valid for 30 days)
- When the visitor signs up (within 30 days), the signup is attributed to your account
- When the customer makes their first payment, a commission is created
Tracking your links
Each link in your dashboard shows:
- Total clicks
- Signups attributed to this link
- Active customers from this link
- Earnings from this link
Create separate links for each promotion channel (one for your blog, one for YouTube, one for email) to track performance per channel.
Referral codes
Creating a referral code
- Log in to your affiliate dashboard
- Go to Referral Codes
- Click + New Code
- Enter your desired code (e.g.,
PARTNER20or your name) - Click Create
How referral codes work
Referral codes are applied by the visitor manually:
- During account onboarding, there is a Referral code field
- The visitor enters your code
- Attribution is recorded at the time of signup
- Cookie-based attribution is not used for code-based referrals
Use referral codes for
- Podcasts and video content where you verbally mention the code
- Live events and conferences
- Situations where you cannot use a clickable link
Attribution rules
| Scenario | Attribution outcome |
|---|---|
| Visitor clicks link → signs up within 30 days | Attributed to your link |
| Visitor clicks link → signs up after 30 days | Not attributed |
| Visitor clicks link AND enters a code at signup | Code attribution takes precedence |
| Visitor enters code at signup (no link click) | Attributed to your code |
| Visitor clicks two different affiliate links | Most recent click within 30 days wins |
Sharing your referral link
Best places to share your referral link:
- Your website or blog with a CTA (“Try Convertly CRM →”)
- YouTube video descriptions
- Email newsletters
- LinkedIn posts and articles
- Ad campaigns (if running paid promotions for Convertly)
